WENATCHEE — Michael Nickerson is the new interim pastor at First United Methodist Church, 941 Washington St.
Rev. Nickerson has been in ministry since 1974, most recently serving as the senior pastor of Parker United Methodist Church in Parker, Colo. He is an adjunct professor at Iliff School of Theology in Denver. Early in his career, he served as pastor for three United Methodist Churches in Michigan before being appointed as director of research design for the United Methodist General Board of Higher Education and Ministry in Nashville. He was appointed program director and director of congregational development for the Desert Southwest Conference of the United Methodist Church in Phoenix in 1986.
While in Arizona, he served as senior pastor at the Central United Methodist Church in Phoenix. He also served as president of United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio, from 1996-1999.
Nickerson earned a bachelor’s degree in social sciences from Michigan State University in East Lansing, Mich., and a master’s of divinity degree from United Theological Seminary. He also earned a master’s degree in urban geography from Miami University of Ohio in Oxford, Ohio, and a doctorate degree in historical geography from Syracuse University in Syracuse, N.Y.
Rev. Nickerson is married to Ti Nickerson.
