Cameras let homeowner watch flames from afar
LAKE WENATCHEE — Lauren Pflugrath wasn’t at his Lake Wenatchee vacation house Friday evening but he still had a close-up view of flames climbing trees around the west side of the house.
LAKE WENATCHEE — The evacuation level was dropped last night to 1 for about 40 Lake Wenatchee homes that had been at a Level 3 notice.
Level 3 meant that people should leave their homes. Level 1 means that they should be aware of fire danger but they don’t have to leave.
The notices came after fire was reported about 6:30 p.m. on the lake’s north shore. Fire officials were not available this morning but reports Friday night were that two to four homes had been damaged by fire.
Chelan County Undersheriff John Wisemore said an estimated 30 to 40 acres burned, including between two and four cabins, before firefighters got it under control.
The fire was reported on the Lake Wenatchee Highway, adjacent to Brown Road, he said.
A resident there reported that just before the fire, there was a power outage, and when he went outside he noticed the cabin next door was on fire.
“It just took off from there,” Wisemore said.
