QUINCY — Police are on a manhunt near Quincy this morning for a suspect who may be hiding in an orchard after shooting someone multiple times and then fleeing in a pickup truck.
The shooting happened about 7:40 a.m. in a blueberry field west of Quincy, near Highway 28 West and County Road T Northwest, said Kyle Foreman, spokesman for the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.
He said the person who was shot was still alive, when he was transported to Quincy Valley Medical Center where Medstar was waiting to fly him to a trauma center. No other information was available about that person, he said.
The suspect, identified as Arnoldo Cazares Mendoza, 20, of Quincy, fled the scene in a pickup truck, which was located abandoned near an orchard at County Road U and 9 Northwest, a short distance away from the scene of the shooting, he said.
“The orchard is surrounded right now by police,” he said, including Washington State Patrol troopers and sheriff’s deputies.
“We’re asking all citizens to stay away from there while we search for the suspect,” Foreman said, adding, “We believe he may still be in the orchard.”
Anyone who sees the suspect is asked to call 911.
