Katherine Roumeliotis

September 20, 1926 ~ July 22, 2013

Katherine Roumeliotis, 86, of Wenatchee, passed away July 22, 2013. She was born September 20, 1926, to Konstantine and Olga Valissarakos. Katherine grew up in Cashmere, helping her parents in the family restaurant, The Cashmere Cafe;. While growing up, Kay was lovingly known to her young cousins as “Tootsie,” which stuck with her for a long time. She was very much loved by her nieces and great nephews. Katherine attended the University of Washington and following graduation, went to Greece on vacation with her family, where she met her husband, Chris Roumeliotis. They married in August of 1952 in Athens. They came to Cashmere and worked with her parents at The Cashmere Cafe;. Chris and Katherine bought the restaurant in 1962, and owned and operated it until 1973. In the early 1980s, she worked at Pepsi-Cola. She retired in 1985. Together, they lived and raised their two sons in Cashmere for 27 years, before moving to Wenatchee in 1981. Katherine loved being “Yiayia” to her four grandchildren and enjoyed learning languages, traveling, crossword puzzles and being with family and friends.

Katherine is survived by her husband, Chris; sons, Kary and Kon (Kim); and grandchildren, Kayla, Chris, Krista and Katlynn. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Jim. Her presence and smile will be greatly missed by many.

We will be celebrating Katherine’s life with a traditional Orthodox Funeral at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 26, 2013, at the Jones & Jones~Betts Memorial Chapel, with Internment following at Wenatchee City Cemetery. Friends and family are welcome and encouraged to join us. Memorial donations may be made to the Three Hierarchs Orthodox Christian Church of Wenatchee, 1250 N.
