BEND, Ore. — The Wenatchee AppleSox lost again Sunday, which means the team is now on a three-game losing streak and has lost six of its last seven.
The Sox held a 3-1 lead going into the bottom of the sixth, when the Bend Elks scored three runs to take a 4-3 lead, which was the final score because Wenatchee couldn’t push another run across.
AppleSox starter C.J. Burdick left in the sixth with the bases loaded. Lefty Vaughn Berberet inherited those runners and allowed a pair of singles to give up the lead.
Brock Slavin, Ryan Barr and Brett Stephens all had doubles for the Sox, but the team couldn’t muster a run after the fifth.
Burdick was charged with the loss. Davis Engel will start in Monday’s series-concluding contest in Bend.
The Sox loss, combined with another win from the Bellingham Bells puts Wenatchee even further away from the playoffs with just 10 league games remainaing on the schedule. As it currently stands, the AppleSox are a full game behind the Walla Walla Sweets for the second-place playoff spot in the North Division.
