CHELAN — Four new fires — three of them less than an acre — are burning in the upper Lake Chelan area, ignited by lightning Sunday night.
The largest is the Moore Point Fire, estimated at 50 acres, and located seven miles southeast of Stehekin.
The fire is on private land and in the Lake Chelan Sawtooth Wilderness. Structure protection is in place for one private residence. The Moore Point Campground and Lakeshore Trail 1274 between Meadow Creek and the Flick Creek Campground are closed.
The three other fires are the Skookum Pass Fire, less than one acre, south of the Moore Point Fire; the Wolverine Creek Fire, about one-tenth of an acre burning three miles north of Lucerne; and the Pyramid Creek Fire, which is one-half acre burning north of Graham Harbor.
Access to the three fires is limited but smokejumpers were sent to evaluate the fuels and assess risks.
