The AppleSox couldn’t maintain their hot start Sunday in an afternoon conclusion against of their two-game series against the Everett Merchants, losing 10-2.
The Merchants jumped out to a quick start, scoring a run in the first inning and two in the second. Wenatchee got within one run in the bottom of the third when the Sox scored two runs.
Everett then scored four in the seventh, when Wenatchee Valley College pitcher Allen Willy relieved starter Davis Engle. The Merchants plated four in the seventh and another three in the eighth, running their lead to the final margin.
Leadoff hitter and centerfielder Brock Slavin, of Gonzaga, continued his hot streak at the plate, going 1-for-2 at the plate, running his season average to .714. Blake Raekes, a temporary player from WVC, went 3-for-4. Raekes had an RBI, was hit by a pitch, and had a steal.
Everett’s outfield pounded the ball Sunday. Centerfielder Sam Brown hit a homerun, as did rightfielder Keenan Korch.
The Sox now have two days off before heading to Bellingham for a three-game road series against the Bells.
