Bowers competes at Public Links championship
Chelan’s Kelli Bowers shot an 81 on Tuesday at the U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championshp, held at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club, for a two-day total of 158 (9-over par).
The projected cut as of Tuesday afternoon was 153.
Bowers, who plays for the University of Washington, fired a 77 on Monday.
Bowers will participate in the U..S. Women’s Open next week.
All-star girls basketball game Saturday
Seven prep girls basketball players from North Central Washington will compete at the 2013 Washington/North Idaho All-State Basketball Games on Saturday at the Hub Sports Center in Spokane.
Chelan’s Courtney Dietrich, Okanogan’s Kara Staggs, and Monica Landdeck and Chandler Smith of Brewster will play for the 1A East team.
Manson’s Itzel Castro and Bridgeport’s Deycy-Monje Lopez will play for the East B squad, and Ephrata’s Kendall Sage will play for the 2A/3A East team.
Brewster’s Roger Boesel will coach the 1A East team.
B East will play B West at 1:30 p.m., while 1A East will take on 1A West at 3:30 p.m.. 2A/3A East will play 2A/3A West at 5:30 p.m.
All-star football games this weekend
Eastmont’s Darin Hardgrove and Wenatchee’s Ryan Osterlund and Nick Sells will participate in Friday’s 49th annual Washington State East-West High School All-Star Football Game.
The North Central Washington trio will play for the East team. Eastmont’s Doug McGill will be an assistant coach for the East.
The game will be held at Lions Field in Moses Lake and will start at 7 p.m.
Four NCW players will participate in the 2013 Earl Barden Classic, to be held Saturday at East Valley High School in Moxee.
Cascade’s Fabian Alvarez and Derek Darlington and Cashmere’s Moe Roberts and Dylan Tarver are scheduled to play for the East squad against the West in the 2A/1A/B all-state football game.
The contest will begin at 1 p.m.
Prep baseball players named to all-state teams
Four North Central Washington players have been named to the Washington State Baseball Coaches Association 2013 All-State teams.
Wenatchee pitcher Dustin Driver was a first-team pick for the 4A squad. Driver was the Big Nine’s pitcher of the year, led the Panthers to the 4A state tournament and was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the Major League Baseball first-year player draft earlier this month.
Cashmere pitcher/infielder Devin Knight was named to the A-B first team, while Bulldogs teammate Dylan Tarver, an outfielder, was a second-team selection.
The duo helped lead Cashmere to its third 1A state title in the past four years last month.
Brewster pitcher Timbo Taylor was named to the A-B second team.
Chelan soccer players, coach honored
Chelan soccer player Eleazar Galvan has been named as the 1A state player of the year in a vote by the state’s association of soccer coaches.
Goats coach Jamie Richards was named as the 1A coach of the year.
Defender Julio Vera was selected as a first-team choice, and defender Juan Garcia was voted to the second team.
Chelan won the 1A state soccer championship last month.
