LONGVIEW, Wash. (AP) — A spokesman for Cowlitz 2 Fire and Rescue says a 79-year-old Kelso, Wash., man who spent 20 minutes in the chilly Columbia River after his kayak overturned was rescued unhurt.
Spokesman Bryan Ditterick said the man was wearing a life jacket. His name was not released.
The spokesman says the man in the kayak was fishing with a friend, who was on the shore. The kayaker lost his balance and the craft overturned Friday afternoon.
Two other men in kayaks were able to reach him and tow him and his kayak to safety.
Cowlitz County sheriff’s deputies and the Coast Guard also responded.
