SUNRIVER, Ore. — The Wenatchee Racquet and Athletic Club 65-and-older men’s tennis team won the United States Tennis Association/Pacific Northwest section championship last week.
The WRAC team defeated Central Park (Kirkland), Courthouse Tennis Club (Salem, Ore.) and Valley Tennis Club (Olympia) to advance to the championship finals.
In the finals, the local team avenged an earlier team loss in league play by defeating Spokane Club 3-0. Keith Vradenburg and George Haas won first doubles, while Dick Milner and Manny Aguilar upset a previously unbeaten tandem 10-8. In third doubles, Brian Wengreen and Dave Schulz won to finish the shutout victory.
This was the seventh time this group of seniors has won the sectional championship since 2003.
Other team members included Earl Tilly, Dave Weber and Pete Raynor.
