FAIRBANKS, Alaska — Four Leavenworth Winter Sports Club cross country skiers will compete at the United States Ski and Snowboard Association Marriott Junior National Cross Country Ski Championships, which will start Saturday and run through March 16 in Fairbanks, Alaska.
Blakely Browne, Nate Wells, Ivy Spiegel Ostrom and Lydia Youkey will team up with 22 other skiers from throughout the Pacific Northwest to compete against nine other divisions across the United tates. They will compete in four races in Fairbanks, including a relay.
Browne and Wells completed qualification for the Pacific Northwest Ski Association junior national cross country ski team last month while competing for the Leavenworth Winter Sports Club at Mount Spokane.
In a competitive group of J1 skiers (ages 16-17), Browne placed sixth in a 10-kilometer classic technique race, and placed seventh in a 10-kilometer skate technique race. For the J2 skiers (ages 14-15), Wells placed first in a 5-kilometer classic race, and second in a 5-kilometer skate race.
