Z-Country 94.7 FM joined the nation’s largest country music talent search, the Texaco Country Showdown, where stars like Garth Brooks, Martina McBride and Brad Paisley got their start.
The annual competition, now in its 32nd year, attracts thousands of musicians hoping to launch a professional music career.
Z-Country will be one of 500 hometown radio stations hosting talent contests this spring. The local showdown will be held at Memorial Park on April 26 during the Apple Blossom Festival. The competition is open to instrumental and vocal performers, as long as they have not been part of Billboard’s top 100 country chart. Individual or groups with up to seven members are welcome. The entry fee is $20. Pick up an entry form at 32 N. Mission St., or online at zcountry947.com/texaco.htm.
A local winner will advance to the state competition, then to a regional contest in the fall. The top five regional performers will be featured on a nationally televised special with a grand prize of $100,000 cash.
