Reinventing Wally’s: From House of Booze to house of music

Wally’s is in the midst of a reinvention, from a house of booze to a house of live music, and not just of the rock variety. Consider the handbill for the show this weekend: Black edgy lettering lists two punk-rock bands — Event Staph from Seattle and P.R.O.B.L.E.M.S. of Portland. A photo in the middle reveals the headliner: Seattle indie-folksters Horde and the Harem looking wistfully into the distance in knitted scarves and hip wool blazers. The next weekend, master ukulele player Blues Bellied Dante will play alongside bluegrass banjo player Cowboy Dan of Wenatchee and Scott McDougall, a one-man folk act from Oregon.
