YAKIMA — Wenatchee Valley College picked up a win in a twinbill on the road against Yakima Valley on Wednesday.
The Knights scattered two runs and eight hits across nine innings in a 2-0 win in game one.
Beau Kerns tossed a complete-game six-hitter, striking out six and giving up no runs. His ERA dropped to 1.64 after the win.
Justin Berneski and Jacob Hignite both went 2-for-4 at the mound.
WVC had a tough time answering Yakima Valley’s offensive explosion in the fourth inning and fell 8-1 in the nightcap.
The Yaks produced two runs in the bottom of the third to take a 2-0 lead and expanded on that with another six runs the next inning to take an 8-0 advantage.
Reid Martinez, Shawn Wardian and Josh Snider each had two runs batted in for Yakima Valley.
Allen Willey gave up 10 hits and five earned runs in three innings of work for the Knights. Grant Devlin gave up two hits in five innings. Designated hitter Randy Fuller led the team going 3-for-4 at the plate.
WVC returns to action when it hosts Big Bend for a doubleheader Saturday. Game one is scheduled for 1 p.m.
