Now that’s a crowd. Propelled into the streets by fair skies and temperatures in the mid-70s, folks swept into the Memorial Park Food Fair and Craft Fair just after Saturday’s 11 a.m. Apple Blossom Grand Parade.
Attendance was healthy all along the parade route as more than 100 entries floated from Triangle Park through the downtown. While police were prepared in case of explosive threats, the only thing blowing up was the cannon on the Seattle Seafair Pirates’ scurvy float … well, that and a Classy Chassis entry that apparently konked out and barfed some oil on Ninth Street on its way to the staging area.
(The Seafair float too proved less than seaworthy, losing power on Orondo at the top of the hill, requiring its crew to get out and paddle … er, push. Once the craft rounded the corner onto Wenatchee Avenue, alas, she was dead in the water. Arrrr.)
But the floats and fair rides are now in the rearview, so let’s enjoy these photographic memories. For more photos from this year’s festival, cllick our online gallery below. And whatever you do, don’t miss that last picture of Princess Maggie Chvilicek trying to catch a few pre-parade winks without messing up her hair.
