The Wenatchee High School Golden Apple Marching Band took first place in its division at Sumner’s Sunset Festival of Bands. Eleven bands from around the Northwest participated in the competition. The band is directed by Jim Kovach and assistant director Tim Zanol.
Over the last few weeks, the GA Band has been fine tuning and making subtle changes to its “Wildfire” show. The hours of practice and hard work are reflected in the scores for its performance leading to its best standing so far this season. In addition to the first-place award, the band earned caption awards for best drum majors, best percussion and best music.
After the preliminary competition, the Seattle Seahawks’ Blue Thunder drumline entertained the bands and spectators with a thrilling, high-energy performance.
The next competition is Nov. 9 when the GA Band attends Auburn High School’s 27th annual Veterans’ Day Marching Band Competition and Auburn’s 48th annual Veterans’ Day Parade. The Golden Apple Band will also honor local veterans by participating in Wenatchee’s Veteran’s Day Parade on Nov. 11.
To show its appreciation for the community’s continued support, the band invites you to come see and hear what others are talking about. Please stop by for any Monday or Thursday evening practice between 6 and 9 p.m. We hope to see you at the WHS track off Red Apple Road as Wenatchee’s own award winning band performs for you. To follow the band and see photos and videos, please check out “Wenatchee GA Band” on Facebook and YouTube.
Anne-Marie Windsor is president of the WHS GA Band Booster group.
