Marilyn (Gutz) Liddell
January 6, 1926 ~ October 18, 2013
Marilyn (Gutz) Liddell of East Wenatchee, surrounded by her loving family, died peacefully at home on October 18, 2013. Born January 6, 1926 in Selby, SD, she was the youngest of eight children born to Louise and Henry Gutz. Marilyn graduated from the University of Wyoming with a degree in Education. She taught school in Denver and Seattle before marrying William Liddell of Cashmere, WA on April 4, 1953 in Casper, WY. They moved to Wenatchee, where they raised their family. She continued teaching young children as a substitute teacher, then went on to teach Head Start for eight years.
For Marilyn, family was everything and she instilled in her children her love for music, arts, crafts; and giving back to the community. She loved sharing stories and songs with others, especially children. Her Christian faith moved her to live beyond herself, to help better other peoples’ lives. She lived with her “cup always half full”, with a smile on her face, a positive attitude and kind words for anyone who she graced with her presence.
Marilyn generously gave her time to the Wenatchee community for over 50 years. She loved singing in the church choir and volunteering in the church library, taking meals to members of the community through Mobile Meals, the arts: as a board member of Community Concert and volunteer for the Wenatchee Theater, a 1979/80 Apple Blossom chaperone and for many years, was an active member of Children’s Orthopedic Hospital Guild and P.E.O.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Bill; children, Jim, Susan Liddell Spencer and Bill Jr (Melinda); and her treasured grandchildren: three granddaughters and a grandson.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Wenatchee Hospice for the loving support and care.
