A farmer says no on I-522
As a farmer, I care not only about the food I help put on the table of Washington’s families, but what I put on my own family’s table as well. I have looked into the facts on Initiative 522 and found that it is a punitive measure that would create a complicated, arbitrary set of food labeling regulations and exemptions in Washington that do not exist in any other state or country in the world.
I-522 will harm family farmers and increase costs for consumers by adding significant bureaucracy and red tape to our business, and by making farmers vulnerable to frivolous lawsuits. All of this would put Washington farmers at a distinct competitive disadvantage with farmers in other states. Agriculture is enormously important to Washington’s economy, and I-552 will damage the progress we have been making.
The American Medical Association says “There is no scientific justification for special labeling of bioengineered foods.” Yet, I-522 would put what is essentially a warning label on these foods misleading consumers into believing they have something to fear. It’s wrong, it’s unnecessary, and it would hurt our state enormously. For these reasons, I ask you to join me in voting no on I-522.
Naigle-Martin for Quincy
In reference to a recent letter to the Quincy Valley Post Register, that made allegations against Patty Naigle-Martin who is running for Mayor of Quincy, I wish I could address each item, but due to word limitation, I will focus on only one which isa pet peeve of mine.
The Army NCO Creed which was enacted three years before I joined the military, states “I will not use my grade or position to attain pleasure, profit, or personal safety.” Over time I simplified it to “personal gain or self-interest.”
I’ve known of Patty for decades, because in school she was only one grade up from me. When I was running for City Counsel, my opponent and I were included in on meetings and such. During this time, I recall we were in a convoy to a water treatment facility near Othello. I was in the same vehicle as Patty. I recall also attending an Aqua Center development meeting. Patty and the Parks and Recreation Committee representative were working on the AC’s design. This was when it was just a swimming pool.
During this time, I got to know Patty, her philosophy and ethics towards people. There’s nothing I have seen where she has profited in any way when she was a servant of the people.
Show me proof to support the allegations. While you’re searching for non-existing documents, I’m voting for Patty Naigle-Martin to be the next mayor of Quincy.

What’s the end game?
In an Oct. 25 Safety Valve letter a Dr. Anderson cited the importance of health insurance in the United States. He also wrote “Ultraconservatives in the House of Representatives have steadfastly insisted on defunding the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) with no proposed alternative.” The latter part of that sentence is simply not true. For years the GOP has tried to get tort reform and making health insurance like auto or life insurance, that being transferable from state to state.
Tort reform has been consistently beaten back by ambulance trial lawyers (like the slimy John Edwards) and their PACs, who are the Democrats. No. 1 contributor. Health insurance changes have also been stopped by these same people, but why?
To me, employer-sponsored health plans should be illegal. I’m sure that most of you know someone who cannot quit their job because they can’t afford to lose their insurance. That is a form of bondage and very unAmerican. Why not make them shop at the company store too?
Our founding fathers knew that the key to preserving our free society is responsibility. History irrefutably shows that socialism doesn’t work and runs counter to freedom, the freedom our forbearers fought and died for. So why should the responsible pay for the irresponsible? Yes, we should help those who cannot help themselves like our children. Children should have universal health care. So why didn’t the Democrat elites push such a law? Because the elites don’t care about our children and children can’t vote. Go research Saul Alinsky and his book “Rules for Radicals” and ask yourself, what’s the difference between what this “community organizer” wrote and what is happening all across this once free country now.
