With Wenatchee Valley College’s upcoming 75th anniversary in 2014, The WVC Foundation felt this would be a great time to start the WVC Alumni Program. To kick-start the program, the Alumni Association hosted its first in a series of quarterly alumni networking socials Oct. 22, at Tastebuds Wine & Coffee.
The event was an overwhelming success, and attendees included alumni from the classes of 1969 through 2008. “It was great fun! Saw people I knew and made interesting new friends!” commented Patty Stanford. Karendawn Clay added “Fun event; I’ll be sure to spread the word … ”
Not only was the attendance more than anticipated; but genuine connections were made. Our goal is to have one of these every quarter, with the next one scheduled for February 2014.
“Alumni are the future of Wenatchee Valley College,” said Sara Lippert, chairwoman of the WVC Alumni Association and WVC Foundation board member. “There is no time like the present to reach out to alumni of WVC and reconnect them to the college, while at the same time helping them connect with each other.”
“Alumni associations nationwide have been active with four-year higher education institutions for many years, and community colleges are quickly realizing that they need to cultivate and build lifelong relationships with their alumni,” Lippert said.
Each month, the Alumni Association will select an alum to interview for an alumni spotlight. The interview will appear on the association’s Facebook page and website.
In addition, all businesses are invited to partner with us in a new Loyalty Program. Loyalty Partners provide discounts on goods and services, merchandise, food and beverages, etc. There is no cost to the business to become a Loyalty Partner. WVC alumni who support scholarships and programs at WVC will receive an Alumni Loyalty Card and a list of participating partners. Each year that alumni renew their annual support, they will receive a new card.
