WENATCHEE — Ed Knaggs, the Wenatchee High School teacher who was fired after a student drowned in his class, will take his termination appeal to Chelan County Superior Court Nov. 15.
The Wenatchee School District fired Knaggs after the drowning of freshman student Antonio Reyes Nov. 17, 2011, in the high school swimming pool. Knaggs was the teacher in charge of the swimming class in which Reyes was a student.
Knaggs was fired April 2012. He appealed the firing but hearing officer William Etter upheld the firing this past April. Etter also found the school district and district and high school administrators in part responsible for the drowning due to deficiencies in policy, procedures and actions.
Knaggs appealed the decision. The appeal is set to be heard by Superior Court Judge Lesley Allan Nov. 15. Knaggs wants his job back and back wages, said his attorney Quentin Batjer.
