WENATCHEE — After 2-1/2 years without a trial in an attack that left a Wenatchee man with brain damage, Isaac S. Sprauer now faces long-term commitment to a mental health facility.

Chelan County Superior Court Judge Alicia Nakata on Wednesday dismissed the criminal charge of first-degree assault against Sprauer, 31, and ordered him into a 72-hour evaluation period in state custody — paving the way for his potential long-term confinement under state mental health laws.
