CHELAN — As the autumn season changes, the leaves fall from the trees, and the air gets colder, residents in the Chelan Valley begin to think of Christmas.

For many, this is a joyful time, filled with delicious food, family traditions and presents under the tree. However, that pleasant scene is not true for many families in the United States, and the Chelan Valley is no exception. With the economic decline over the past several years and the constantly unpredictable nature of agriculture, one of the valley’s primary sources of jobs, some hard-working families are not able to provide presents for their children as the choice may be between food and gifts.
