Savoie to earn reduced sentence after plea

EPHRATA — Evan D. Savoie, facing a second trial in the 2003 murder of 13-year-old Craig Sorger, will instead receive a lessened sentence after entering a guilty plea to second-degree murder last week.

Savoie, now 23, was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to 26 years in 2005, but the Washington Court of Appeals in 2011 invalidated his trial because one court hearing in the case was improperly closed to the public.
