Wilf Woods | Celebrating Frank Matsura’s legacy

This is the hundredth year of Frank Matsura’s death in Okanogan County, and the historical society of that county is celebrating his works.

This young Japanese came to the U.S. in 1901 and moved to Okanogan six years later, opening a photo studio there. It was a time when glass plates were used, and Matsura left literally hundreds of them when he died of tuberculosis in 1913, depicting a wide range of subjects, many of them picturing the Native American culture of that era.
