Mary Vandyke

October 20, 1925 ~ November 17, 2013

Mary was given an Angel to guide her to Heaven, Sunday, November 17, 2013. Mary was born October 20, 1925 to Henry Bourton and Germaine Mirabeau in Farmer, WA. Mary spent her early years at the family farm in Douglas, graduating from Waterville High School and then Wenatchee Business College. Through the years, Mary was a bookkeeper, homemaker and long time resident in the Wenatchee Valley. Mary was also a Douglas County wheat farmer, proud of her immigrant parents, brother Joe and the farm she grew up on.

Mary was married to Ed Helbling, until his passing in 1969. Later, she was married to Harold Vandyke, until his passing in 2008. During her marriage to Harold, they traveled all over the United States, spending time with their “Good Sam” family. They were state officers, started a program to raise money to train dogs for the deaf, entertaining for many activities and spending winters in her home in Arizona.

Mary enjoyed endless hours crocheting and making beautiful dresses for her daughters and granddaughters. Through the years, Mary was active in American Legion, Holy Apostles Catholic Church, Wenatchee Eagles, Elks, Chelan Yacht Club, Wenatchee Boat Club and the Good Sams.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Joe Bourton. She is survived by her daughters, Nicolette Schwab of Portland, OR and Jacqueline Cote of East Wenatchee; grandchildren, Jered Dunagan (son Tanner), Jennifer Dunagan (daughters, Kya and Kenya) and Kaitlyn Cote all of Seattle; sister-in-law, Gloria Bourton; nieces and nephews, Michelle, Mike, Bill and Jeanette; cousin, Hubert Bourton and his family; and Gary Peterson, a special friend who watched over Mary for more than four years. If Mary could have had a son, you would have filled the spot. You made her smile and we are grateful.

A special thank you to Home Health, John Springer, Wenatchee Hospice nurse, Claudia and staff, all the staff of Cherry Country Lane and Rick Phillips of Telford’s. The love and the care you gave mom fills my heart. How fortunate she was to have all of you.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Apostles Catholic Church, 1315 8th NE, East Wenatchee, on Monday, November 25, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. Concluding Services and Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park in East Wenatchee. Memorials may be made to the Wenatchee Valley Humane Society. Arrangements are by Telford’s Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee, WA.
