The Regan family of Wenatchee makes cards for people associated with the military during the Holiday Mail for Heroes event at the Apple Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross in Wenatchee on Saturday. They are from left, Kali, 13, Richard, Angie and Ethan, 10.

The annual nation-wide program gives the public a chance to send messages of thanks and holiday cheer to military members, veterans, and their families around the world. Last year more than 1.8 million cards were distributed. If you’d like to provide a card for the event, the Red Cross will be accepting them at their office at 12 Orondo Ave. in Wenatchee from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., Monday through Thursday until Dec. 4.
