ENTIAT — The Jewish Community of Greater Wenatchee will light an outdoor menorah to celebrate Chanukah at 4:30 p.m. this evening at the Warehouse Community Church in Entiat.

The Jewish holiday begins tonight and continues for eight days to celebrate the successful revolt again Syrian-occupied Israel in 165 B.C., said Alan Moen, spokesman for the local group. This year is special, he said, because it is the first year since 1888 that Chanukah has coincided with Thanksgiving. The holiday is based on the lunar calendar. The two holidays won’t overlap again until 2070, or by other calculations for another 79,000 years, Moen said.
