Power rates going up Jan. 1 for Grant County PUD customers

EPHRATA — Electricity rates for all customers powered by the Grant County PUD will increase an average of 2 percent starting Jan. 1, utility officials announced in a news release Tuesday.

Commissioners approved the rate increase Monday to generate some $3.1 million in extra cash for upgrades at the utility’s Columbia River dams, Priest Rapids and Wanapum. The upgrades are required of the PUD’s federal dam license, the news release said.
