Joyce Flores began collecting Nativity scenes after her good friend, Sandy Christensen, drafted her to help with a community exhibit organized by Wenatchee area members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) several years ago. Since that time she has gathered over 80 Nativities and has been a frequent volunteer organizer of the annual event.
She’s back again this year, helping, planning and sharing her remarkable crèches with the public. Among her international collection is an Argentine Nativity made entirely from leather and a Russian matryoshka set of nesting figures. There are others from Mexico, Germany and Rome. She has a unique 3-D, laser-engraved crystal Nativity and a waterfall crèche that she acquired in Georgia.
