RIVERSIDE — A Riverside Grocery clerk was punched three times in the head and knocked down by a robber who made off with $600 on Monday, authorities said.
Despite the assault and a threat to kill her, the clerk jumped up when the robber left, got a description of the van that was leaving and called police, said Okanogan County Sheriff Frank Rogers.
He said the suspect came into the store at 102 Main St. just before noon, walked down an aisle where the clerk was working, and assaulted her. He left in a dark blue mini-van with a turquoise bumper.
The suspect had a knife and a whipping crop, but didn’t use them except to threaten the woman, the sheriff said. He was described as a heavy-set Hispanic man wearing sunglasses and a red bandana around his face.
Rogers said his description fits the suspect in an Ellisforde robbery on Sept. 8. In that case, the man forced the clerk into a walk-in cooler and locked the door, then made off with $1,500, he said. A customer heard her yelling inside the Highway 97 mini market and let her out.
The sheriff’s office released a video — on which the time is incorrect — from Monday’s robbery, and are asking anyone with information on the suspect to contact detectives at 422-7232.
