OROVILLE — Thanks in part to citizen tips, an Oroville man was arrested Wednesday as the suspect in a Riverside Grocery store robbery and assault Monday morning.
Oroville Police Chief Clay Warnstaff arrested Alex A. Sanchez, 37, after the Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office notified other agencies that he was wanted, said Sheriff Frank Rogers.
The sheriff said his office received numerous calls from people who had watched a store video he released, and identifying Sanchez as the suspect.
Warnstaff arrested Sanchez without incident after stopping a van in Oroville. The vehicle matched the description of a van given by a store clerk who was punched in the face and knocked to the ground in the robbery.
He was booked into the Okanogan County Corrections Center on suspicion of first-degree robbery.
Rogers said Sanchez also matches the description in a Sept. 8 robbery at the Ellisforde Store, in which the clerk was locked in a walk-in cooler. Detectives are still investigating whether to seek charges in that case, he said.
