WENATCHEE — The Chelan and Douglas County PUDs are celebrating Public Power Week with fun, freebies and hoopla.
Local PUDs and some 2,000 public utilities across the country celebrate Public Power Week today through Saturday.
The Chelan and Douglas PUDs are giving away Oregon Scientific weather radios, donated by the Oregon company to commemorate the week.
For a chance to win the radio, valued at about $30, Douglas PUD customers need to visit the utility’s newly redesigned website, douglaspud.org, and sign up for email-based e-billing.
Chelan PUD customers who “like” the PUD’s Facebook page will have a chance to win the radio.

Offering a chance to win an iPad to its customers who visit chelanpud.org sign up for email-based e-billing by Dec. 16. Customers who’ve already signed up can also enter the contest by visiting the website and doing a short survey.
Hosting a drive for canned and boxed foods and personal items to benefit the Chelan Food Bank, Upper Valley Mend and Serve Wenatchee. Customers can drop off their donations at PUD offices and at the Rocky Reach Dam Visitor Center.
Visiting elementary schools to show how to stay safe when using electricity.
Traveling to Camp Zanika Lache on the south shore of Lake Wenatchee, Saturday to talk about how to stay warm and safe when the lights go out during winter storms. Giveaways at the event include emergency kits for home and car. A PUD forester will talk about tree trimming and a lineman will do an electrical safety demonstration.
