EAST WENATCHEE — Local dignitaries turned out Monday to cut the ribbon on a $3.2 million project to pave and improve safety on the “McGinnis Canyon” portion of Badger Mountain Road.
“We’ve provided a nice, wide roadway that is much safer,” Doug Bramlette, engineer for Douglas County said this morning.
Selland Construction of Wenatchee finished the project on budget and a month ahead of schedule.
State and federal grants funded the work, Bramlette said.
Crews paved the route’s 2.3 mile “McGinnis Canyon” stretch, which extends from where the pavement once ended on Badger Mountain Road northeast to Baseline Road near Waterville.
They removed an accident-prone curve and reduced the grade from a very steep 15 percent to 12 percent.
