The Wenatchee High School Golden Apple Marching Band began its 2013 competition season this past weekend at the Neil F. Lampson Stadium in Kennewick. The band placed fourth overall and third place in the AAA Large Band Division for its “Wildfire” performance at the 32nd Annual Cavalcade of Bands showcasing 20 bands from Washington, Idaho and Oregon.
Jim Kovach is band director and Tim Zanol is assistant director.
Band members have spent many hours learning the music and the movements for the show. While it is nice to bring home recognition in the form of awards for their hard work, it is gratifying to see them acquire lifelong skills and habits that are helping them prepare for real life.
The teamwork, mutual respect, dedication, perseverance and enthusiasm they demonstrated was inspiring.
This weekend, the GA Marching Band will represent the Wenatchee Valley at the Tumwater Festival of Bands in Tumwater.
To show its appreciation for the community’s continued support, the band invites you to come see and hear what others are talking about. Please stop by for any Monday or Thursday evening practice between 6 and 9 p.m. at the WHS track off Red Apple Road. To follow the band and see photos and videos, please check out “Wenatchee GA Band” on Facebook and YouTube.
Everyone involved with the GA Band would like to give special thanks to Pat Davis and to the following businesses for their donations of materials to build props for the field show: Rodda Paint, Columbia Paint, Sherwin Williams, Inland Pipe and Supply, Pro Build, Home Depot and to Lea Heimbecker for the many hours painting the scenery on the props.
We would also like to express our appreciation to Wenatchee Motor Sports, Weinstein Beverage, The Ice House and CMI for their ongoing support and contributions to the band. The GA Band would also like to thank all band booster members, chaperones, families and fans for volunteering countless hours to help make an incredible program.
Anne-Marie Windsor is president of the WHS GA Band Booster group.
