WENATCHEE — Alcohol was a factor in the drowning death of a man whose body was found in a small ditch near Foothills Middle School, according to the Chelan County coroner.
Authorities also identified the man: Michael W. Andruss, 38.
Andruss died of asphyxia due to fresh-water drowning, Coroner Wayne Harris said Monday. “Alcohol was most certainly a contributing factor,” Harris said.
Harris said Andruss drowned in about 12 inches of water in the ditch.
Harris listed Andruss’s hometown as East Wenatchee. West said officers think he had recently been living with a relative on Maple Street.
Harris listed the manner of death as an accident.
Students walking to school found the body in the 1500 block of Maple Street about 7:30 a.m. Thursday, police said. Foothills Middle School is in the 1400 block of Maple.
