LEAVENWORTH — A 70-year-old Leavenworth woman was arrested Sunday after a speeding car struck three vehicles in Leavenworth.
Katherine M. Ericksen was arrested on suspicion of reckless driving and two counts of hit and run driving, said Sgt. Bruce Long with the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office.
Ericksen rear-ended one vehicle twice on Icicle Road, struck another car in the 1300 block of Highway 2 and then totaled her car by hitting another car on Highway 2 at Riverbend Drive, Long said. Witnesses said she was going 50 to 90 mph in areas that were posted between 30 and 35 mph.
Long said she also almost struck two groups of people crossing the highway at the Chumstick Highway intersection.
“This all happened during Ocktoberfest and Leavenworth was packed,” Long said. “It’s lucky that no one got hurt.”
Long said Ericksen’s 1990 Jaguar four-door sedan struck all the vehicles in the rear. “All the vehicles she hit were large SUVs,” he said. “Her smaller car took the brunt of all the damage.”
Long said he expects one or two additional charges to be added for the two times Ericksen struck the one car on Icicle Road. Deputies still need to interview that driver.
The accidents happened about 12:45 p.m.
