SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. — The Wenatchee Wild squandered an early lead to fall 5-4 on the road Friday against the Soo Eagles.
Wenatchee scored on power plays from David Powlowski and Trey Bradley to take a 2-0 lead midway through the first period. Bradley scored once more late in the first period to make it a 3-1 contest in the first intermission.
The Eagles answered with scores by Denver Pierce, Mike Sabatini and Ryan Urso to claim a 4-3 lead and Troy Loggins lit the lamp on a power play for Wenatchee with just over one minute left in the second period to tie the game at 4-4.
Soo’s Chase Matson scored the game-winner in the third period.
The Wild outshot Soo 35-33 in the loss. They went 3-for-8 on the power play and Chase Perry recorded 28 saves on 33 shots faced.
Wenatchee wraps up the doubleheader against the Eagles today.
