East Wenatchee City Councilman Wayne Barnhart and two other East Wenatchee residents were transported to Seattle-area hospitals Saturday after a fatal traffic collision near Gold Bar.
Trooper Mark Francis, a State Patrol spokesman, said that Barnhart was at the Colby Providence Hospital in Everett with a broken leg, broken ribs and a bruised face. Hospital staff Sunday couldn’t confirm that Barnhart was a patient there.
Barnhart’s passengers, Michael Green, 70, and Bruce Bratrude, 54, both of East Wenatchee, were reported in serious condition Sunday at Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center.
The accident resulted in the death of Denis Sokolik, 22, of Federal Way, the news release said.
Sokolik’s passenger, Miroslavay Chernyak, 22, of Federal Way was reportedly also transported to Colby Providence Hospital in Everett, but hospital officials couldn’t confirm it.
The accident happened at about 4:15 p.m. on Highway 2, nine miles east of Gold Bar, the news release said. Sokolik, who was westbound in a Mercedes, made an illegal pass on a double yellow line in a curve. His vehicle struck the eastbound Ford F250 pickup driven by Barnhart. The pickup went over a guardrail and into a ditch. The Mercedes came to rest in the eastbound lane.
The incident fully blocked traffic for nearly four hours, the news release said.
