I’m now into my second month on the job at Chelan County PUD. I feel privileged to have the honor to serve the community. Yet I am a bit overwhelmed by just how many things need my attention. We have a fabulous hydropower system and are very strong financially but we have problems with the largest turbines at Rocky Reach Dam, a water and wastewater businesses that need rate increases, and large scale additions of wind and solar across the West that can reverberate through to our rates as both a threat and an opportunity. I’m also spending lots of time getting to know the employees and the community. I am more than fully employed and my focus is here on Chelan County.
Yet, I have taken time to carefully read the recent Department of Energy inspector general report on human resource practices at BPA, some of which occurred during my tenure as the administrator. It is clear reading the report that mistakes were made that need to be corrected.
