EAST WENATCHEE — Douglas County commissioners on Tuesday removed two areas from the county’s open range designation.
The areas include properties south of East Wenatchee to Rock Island, and from East Wenatchee to Turtle Rock.
Areas in the Bridgeport Bar area were not removed, as residents did not support the change, commissioners said.
Over the last several months, commissioners hosted public meetings to gather input about excluding some areas from open range, which allows cattle, horses, mules and donkeys to run at large without damage liability to livestock owners.
Some orchardists requested the change due to new fruit certifications that require keeping livestock out of orchards.
