Advocate for abused and neglected children
Organization: Chelan-Douglas CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates)
Purpose: To speak up in the courts for the best interests of abused and neglected children
Volunteer duties: Interview children, family members, social workers, school officials and health care providers, as well as review records to provide background to help the court make decisions about a child’s future
Volunteer qualifications: Bilingual advocates are needed. However, speaking a second language is not a requirement. Must have a strong interest in advocating for children, be 21 or older, able to pass a criminal background check and willing to volunteer at least 18 months.
Note: 32 hours of training begins Sept. 28. It includes court report writing, information gathering, the law, the child protection system, courts and cultural awareness.
