ORONDO — An Orondo mother and son were injured Thursday night after a tree fell on their single-wide mobile home on Zanol Loop Road during a storm.
An 11-year-old boy cut his foot and his mother cut her ear when a 70-foot pine tree fell down alongside the residence at about 9:50 p.m., said Scott Shriner, assistant chief of the Douglas County Fire District 4.
The center of the tree did not hit the home, but its branches caused substantial damage to the west end, he said.
Shriner said three people inside were initially trapped in one part of the home, but were able to get to the rest of the home by the time firefighters arrived.
Firefighters gave them initial medical treatment and offered to call an ambulance, but the family elected to drive to an emergency room, he said.
The department cut away tree branches so the family could access the front door.
Shriner said damages to the home likely make it unlivable.
