As if the first week of school wasn’t exciting enough … are you ready for some football?
The high school season got under way Friday, a mass thrill multiplied by dozens of schools in dozens of communities across the region. Don’t sell it short. Community pride has great value, and this time of year it is carried by football teams. Effort has worth, organization, intelligence, strategy, fitness — it all comes together on Friday nights. Tradition, friendship, memories, entertainment, cohesion, endearment to an institution of learning — football helps all that. We like it. We recommend to fans, and potential fans, the 2013 NCW Prep Football special section inserted in last Thursday’s World, with profiles of regional teams, excellent features on star athletes, schedules and much useful information.
So when you look across town on Friday and see the lights, and hear the drums and the cheers, know that something special is happening. Go (Wildcats, Panthers, Bulldogs, Kodiaks, Tigers, Goats, Trojans, Shockers, Jack Rabbits, Billygoats, Pioneers, Mustangs, Bears, etc., etc.)
