Emil Miller, owner of the Elman Hotel building, arrived yesterday from Seattle and is looking after business interests.
Mr. and Mrs. M.A. Sorley and Mr. and Mrs. Gunther Carlberg were dinner guests yesterday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Freeman.
The dairy business in the Methow Valley is increasing rapidly and as a wealth producer, it will soon be the leading industry. The Pateros Reporter says there are herds of dairy cows in the valley second to none in the U.S. and all the farmers of the valley are ambitious to have only the best. All the dairy breeds are represented in the valley and there are now over 200 head of thoroughbred and high-grade dairy stock that have been taken into the valley this year and the ranchers are said to still be buying.
50 years ago — 1963
Two young men from the First Methodist Church have been called to the Christian ministry. James Finkbeiner, son of Rev. and Mrs. Chester Finkbeiner, is entering Perkins School of Theology in Dallas. Harry Garrison is going to Garrett Biblical Institute in Evanston, Ill. Both men have been active in the youth work of the church. Outside the church, Finkbeiner taught at Columbia School for two years and Garrison has been on the YMCA staff.
After a two-year interim pastorate at the Wenatchee Valley Church of the Brethren, Dr. and Mrs. R.H. Miller are leaving next week for their new home in North Manchester, Ind. Miller will give his last sermon here Sunday.
Ragnhild Edwardson arrived on the Wenatchee Valley College campus Sept. 3 to take over as director of food services. It will be the first time that the college has had a full-time director in the food center.

Harvey Nanto and Vern Millican eagled the par-4 No. 6 hole to win a 6-hole playoff for the low-gross championship of the Three Lakes Member-Guest Chapman golf tournament at Three Lakes last weekend.
El Charro, a Mexican restaurant based in Kent, is opening a new eatery in Wenatchee at the site of the old Rose and Crown Restaurant in the Victorian Village, which closed its doors last month.
