Lillian Vaughn Vermilya has returned from Seattle where she has taken an eight-week course in piano and will reopen her studio in the W.C.T.U. building. She welcomes new students.
Margaret Hughes hosted several friends at a party Saturday at the home of Mrs. Jacob Miller on Okanogan Avenue. Guests included Celia Leonard, Adelle Hoppock, Gertrude Tyrrell, Marion Ribbetts, Mont Morrison, Margaret Depuy, Mildred Foster, Dorothy Fitch, Laura Thornhill, Ruth LaForge, Kathleen Little, Clark Musson, Clarence Whisnand, Elmer Nelson, Leon Brown, Charles Kempter, Merle Begg, George Miller, Glen Wells, Lavern Kaupp, Raymond Haggard, Eddie Rose, Al Morse and Harold Buck.
50 years ago — 1963
Although it’s some nine months away, preliminary work is under way on the 1964 musical show of Wenatchee Music Theater, Inc. Music Theater President Dick Larsen said a reading committee is currently studying scripts of shows which might be presented. Several “name” shows are under consideration including “Finian’s Rainbow,” “Kismet,” “Bells are Ringing,” “Damn Yankees” and others.
Summertime hasn’t all been vacation for the director and leads of the upcoming Wenatchee High School Music Department production of “The Music Man.” The musical, which was made into a movie, will be presented by the student group Nov. 21-23. Earl Norwood is the director and leading roles will be played by Tom Reich, Sue Cheney, Barbara Rawling, Jim Wetherald, Ruth Riedel, Sandra Olsen, Dennis Miller, Gail Hodgen, Adele Blankenship, Andrea Lodge, Pat Reich, Bruce McKee and Walter Harrah.

Richard Montoya plans to open a Mexican restaurant called Senor Frogs this year in East Wenatchee. Plans call for a 5,000 square-foot restaurant and bar on an acre lot on Simon Street.
Debra Davis, a senior art major at the University of Idaho in Moscow, has received the George and Mackie Roberts Award. She was among several students in the university’s art department who were honored with special awards for their academic achievements. She is the daughter of Ann Wentzel of Wenatchee.
