WENATCHEE — Two Wenatchee residents were arrested this morning for a string of thefts from mailboxes that netted more than $6,000 in cash from forged checks.
Adam C. Wellborn, 31, and Brittney J. Schaeffer, 27, were arrested on suspicion of 10 counts of forgery, 10 counts of identity theft and one count of second-degree theft.
Officers identified them through surveillance videos in neighborhoods, said Sgt. Jim West, a Wenatchee Police Department spokesman.
Sixteen mailboxes were hit in the north central part of Wenatchee, including Westwood and Mulberry streets and Springwater Avenue, West said.
Mail was taken over the past four weeks. Wellborn and Schaeffer were arrested after police served a search warrant on a house in the 1900 block of Lyon Place.
West urged residents to use locking mailboxes to prevent this kind of theft.
