CASHMERE — The state Department of Ecology updated Cashmere’s shoreline master program, and is accepting public comment on it.
The proposed update was adopted by the Cashmere City Council in January.
It provides guidelines for development within 1,200 feet of shoreline along the Wenatchee River within city limits.
Those guidelines include buffers of 75 to 150 feet, with flexibility based on property circumstances; erosion control methods and limits on new shoreline armoring, and a restoration plan that shows where and how voluntary improvements in water and upland areas can enhance the shoreline.
The Shoreline Management Act requires Ecology review before the shoreline program takes effect.
The proposed program and related documents are available at Cashmere’s planning department, or online at ecy.wa.gov/programs/sea/shorelines/smp/mycomments/cashmere.html.
Comments can be sent through Oct. 23 to Lennard Jordan, Department of Ecology, Shorelands and Environmental Assistance Program, 15 W. Yakima Ave., Suite 200, Yakima, WA 98902, or by email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
