MOUNT VERNON — Washington Navy Yard shooter Aaron Alexis appears to have passed through Skagit County at least once — and at a fast rate.
Skagit County District Court records show a 2004 traffic infraction for a Seattle man whose name, age, race and height match the shooter’s. The year matches the time Alexis is believed to have lived in the Seattle area.
The man was pulled over on Aug. 2, 2004, on southbound Interstate 5 near milepost 239 for driving a black Mitsubishi 102 mph in a 70 mph zone.
He got a $538 ticket for second-degree negligent driving, then a $52 late fee the following month. It went to collections a month after that.
A partial payment of $29.63 came in 2008, but nothing after that. District Court closed the case in 2011 because it was so old.
Alexis had been arrested by Seattle police a few months before the Skagit incident for shooting out the tires on a construction worker’s car.
The Skagit speeding ticket wasn’t the last of Alexis’ highway troubles, either. He was fined $600 in March 2005 for having no insurance after he was in a two-car collision on northbound Interstate 405.
