BLAINE, Minn. — The Wenatchee Wild suffered their first blemish of the season Friday in a showcase game with a 2-1 loss against the Minnesota Magicians.
Wenatchee struck first with a score in the second period from David Powlowski at the 11:29 mark, but the lead was short-lived.
Minnesota answered with a shorthanded goal by Cody Milligan early in the third period. The Magicians’ Mario Bianchi followed that with a score roughly six minutes later to take a 2-1 advantage.
Wild netminder Mackenzie Sawyer suffered his first loss of the season, but stopped 22 of the 24 shots he faced in goal.
Minnesota’s Atte Tolvanen had a strong night between the pipes, recording 33 saves on 34 shots.
Wenatchee, which is 2-1 overall after the loss, was 0-for-8 on power play opportunities.
It wraps up showcase play today against undefeated Coulee Region.
