LEAVENWORTH — Washington State Patrol chiefs and city officials plan a dedication ceremony at 10 a.m. Oct. 7 for a highway trooper killed in the line of duty 14 years ago.
Saunders, who served eight years with the state patrol, was a Leavenworth native and Cascade High School graduate. The event marks the 14th anniversary of his death; he was survived by his wife Billie, daughter Megan and son James.
State Patrol Chief John Batiste will be keynote speaker and Leavenworth Mayor Cheri Kelley Farivar will conduct the dedication.
The bench, built by craftsman Ben Barke, has sat at the highway intersection since 2009.
